It felt good to be back behind the mic in the vintage AM1240-WGBB studios Sunday for SportsTalk1240. I brought in James Flippin aka “Jimmy Flippin” to co-host the show with me. Jimmy hosts Mets on the Air on SNY.tv, which I produce. We were joined by 288-game winner and one of the great southpaws in MLB history, Tommy John. We focused on the Tommy John Surgery epidemic, how it changes pitchers, the state of Mets pitching, and what he’s doing now.
We previewed the Mets and Yankees season, and also did it through a freestyle rap. We gave our win predictions for both teams. We also analyzed March Madness and how our brackets have been busted.
Listen in to SportsTalk1240 from Sunday night on AM1240-WGBB in New York. Emory Hunt of FootballGameplan.com joined me to co-host the show. We were joined by former New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel. Jim touched on a variety of topics including: his time with the Giants, his time with the Ravens, why he got robbed by the Redskins, a need for a development league in the NFL, transition of coaching from older to younger guys, watching his son coach the Rams, and a whole lot more.
On SportsTalk1240 this week, producer of The DA Show on CBS Sports Radio Shaun Morash co-hosted the show with me. We opened with our reaction to the Giants loss to the Cowboys. Are the Giants playoff hopes finished? What went wrong in the loss? Does Tom Coughlin come back if they miss the playoffs?
The Jets acquired Percy Harvin Friday. Can he help the Jets? Is it too late for a playoff run?
In the second half of the show, we previewed the Knicks season with NY Post beat writer Marc Berman. How many wins will the Knicks have? Can Derek Fisher have success in his first year? What will the starting five and roster look like?
We also previewed the Nets season. We wrapped up the show with our World Series picks. Also, we mixed in Ben McAdoo looking like a porn star, some pumpkin picking romance talk, and our Charles Barkley and Tom Coughlin impressions.
Former NFL QB Sage Rosenfels joined me on SportsTalk1240 on AM1240-WGBB in New York. We went around the NFL breaking down the Week 3 outcomes. We also discussed the issues off the field and Roger Goodell’s press conference.
I also previewed Jets-Bears and analyzed the Giants win over the Texans. Also, put a recap on the Mets and Yankees season. Finally, has the Derek Jeter retirement tour been milked a bit? Has their lost season been overlooked?
Listen in to my latest SportsTalk1240 show on AM1240-WGBB in New York. WFAN Giants reporter Paul Dottino joined me to break down the tough Giants loss to the Cardinals. Is Big Blue in must-win mode?
Paul also discussed the crazy ending for the Jets in Green Bay. I recapped the disaster at Lambeau and what exactly went wrong for Gang Green.
Also, my rant on the NFL domestic violence issue in the NFL.
Should Adrian Peterson be suspended for the year?
Will Ray Rice be back?
Also, NFL Week 2 in review.
Tune into the podcast from my show Sunday on AM1240-WGBB in New York. On The 5th Quarter in New York Sports, I opened up with my frustration on Ray Rice and his pitiful attempt at an apology Friday in a press conference full of self pity. What did Rice do wrong and how long should he be suspended for his actions against his wife?
I then moved on to another debacle on and off the field in New York. The Mets loss Sunday afternoon was demoralizing and they continue to find new ways to lose. Citi Field has been nothing but quiet, and what has happened when fans cheer at the ballpark? What is going wrong with the Mets? What do they need to change to turn things around? Is Terry Collins on his way out?
Also, the Rangers were in action in a pivotal Game 4 against the Canadiens. I gave updates throughout the show and also discussed Stepan’s injury, Carcillo’s suspension, and analyzing the Rangers run thus far. Can they make a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals? How big would it be for New York sports? I also talked NBA playoffs. Serge Ibaka made his return Sunday night for the Thunder, which will cause the Spurs plenty of problems. The Pacers loss Saturday puts the series in the hands of the Heat, but Elwood from Indiana called in and disagreed with me. I had to put him in his place.
I also break down the Yankees and their series win. They are sticking around in the AL East, but do they need some pitching help with all their injuries? Also, Yunel Escobar and the Red Sox went at it Sunday. Did the Red Sox trigger the debate or is Escobar just a troublemaker? At 34, Josh Beckett tossed his first no-hitter Sunday against the Phillies. To close out the show, I gave out my prediction on who the Knicks next head coach will be. Listen in to a jam-packed show here and download the show on iTunes!
Tune into my sports talk radio show from Sunday on AM1240-WGBB.
I opened the show with my rant on the whole Donald Sterling saga, and what penalty Adam Silver should hand down to the Clippers owner. I then shifted focus to the NBA playoffs. Did this affect the Clippers and their NBA Finals chances? Who wins out of the West? Should the Thunder trade Russell Westbrook?
Also, the Nets lost Game 4 to the Raptors, but will they lose the series? Are the Nets bound to go to the Finals? Who wins out of the East? Also, I guaranteed on the show that Steve Kerr will be the next Knicks head coach and why it is a perfect fit.
Next up was baseball as the Mets are three games over .500 through 25 games. Can they keep it going? Should Dice-K become the new closer?
The Yankees are in first place, but do they need to trade for a pitcher? Will their bullpen survive?
The New York Rangers took a 3-2 series lead Sunday. Is this a cup year for the Blueshirts?
The Jets get Chris Johnson, but is their offseason done? What do the jets and Giants need in the upcoming NFL Draft?
Check out my show from Sunday on Long Island’s AM1240-WGBB. I was joined by longtime WFAN Mets reporter Ed Coleman to preview the 2014 season. Also joining me was former Mets, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Blue Jays outfielder Shawn Green. Shawn was a two-time All Star, a Gold Glove Award winner, and a Silver Slugger Award winner.
