It felt good to be back behind the mic in the vintage AM1240-WGBB studios Sunday for SportsTalk1240. I brought in James Flippin aka “Jimmy Flippin” to co-host the show with me. Jimmy hosts Mets on the Air on SNY.tv, which I produce. We were joined by 288-game winner and one of the great southpaws in MLB history, Tommy John. We focused on the Tommy John Surgery epidemic, how it changes pitchers, the state of Mets pitching, and what he’s doing now.
We previewed the Mets and Yankees season, and also did it through a freestyle rap. We gave our win predictions for both teams. We also analyzed March Madness and how our brackets have been busted.
Listen in to the debut of Brown and Troupe on CBSLocalSports.com and Play.it. We gave out our NCAA Tournament picks to start the show. I was then joined by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports to break down the brackets. Troupe and I then talked Chris Borland and his early retirement. BT was in a similar spot when he left the NFL early at the age of 26. Also, Troupe reveals that he met his wife on MySpace. I let out JB’s Beef on dumb text messages from girls on sports. We close out the show with our Musical Escapade singing the hits of the greatest musical of all time…Grease.
We also interviewed former NBA great Kenny Anderson, who joined us in studio. We went through his entire career on and off the court, hearing stories he’s never revealed before.
The Jets are having a better offseason than anyone in the NFL. A big reason for that is the new man in charge, Mike Maccagnan. Gang Green’s new GM has brought a brand new identity to a team that was lost the last couple of years under John Idzik. My latest CBSLocalSports.com column focuses on the franchise turning it around.
Sunday’s loss in the CAA Semis for the Hofstra Pride men’s basketball team turned out to be the most heartbreaking loss in program history. A game that ended up trending on Twitter and that left everyone on the edge of their seat, ended in a 92-91 William & Mary win in double overtime. The players were emotional after the game, and clearly were devastated by the loss in a game they had a plethora of chances to win.
The Hofstra Pride men’s basketball team ran away from JMU in the second half of the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals Saturday, defeating the Dukes 74-57. Hofstra will now take on William & Mary today at 2:30 with a spot in the CAA Championship Game on the line. I’m down in Baltimore covering the tournament. Check out my SportsTalk1240.com story following their win yesterday.
